Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Bas with fistBack in my mixed martial arts days, all of my workouts, meals and matches were based around routines. I had to make sure that I was getting enough calories and nutrients, and then I had to make sure I was burning them in the right way. No matter what sport you play or what you do for a living, I think most people fall into comfortable patterns. It’s just human nature. The thing is, though, when you want to take something to the next level, it’s all about stepping out of your comfort zone.

When I started working out with the O2 Trainer, this was immediately clear to me. It wasn’t just about getting a more efficient workout, it was also about mixing things up and putting my body through different physical challenges. I wasn’t just getting stronger and I wasn’t just getting more endurance, I was also growing as a person too. Because here’s the thing: when you step out of your comfort zone, you’re immediately met with anxiety. What if I’m not good enough? What if I’ve bitten off more than I can chew? More often than not, we all rise to the occasion. I know that sounds a little corny, but it’s absolutely true.

It might be hard to remember it now, but there was a time before those habits were second nature. You had to work to get to a point of familiarity, and I’m willing to bet that it didn’t happen overnight.

This is why I don’t just recommend the O2 Trainer to my friends who are also athletes. Sure, they’re always looking for an advantage and any new way that they might be able to set the physical bar a little bit higher for themselves, but you don’t have to be a pro to want to conquer new challenges or grow into a better version of yourself. Even my friends who are just hobbyists or weekend warriors have enjoyed incorporating the O2 Trainer into their routines. It saves them time, which was probably the biggest plus in their book (at least initially), but the reason they stuck with it was because it added a new wrinkle for them to grapple with.

I’m no psychologist. Don’t get me wrong. All I can do is share my own experience and tell you about what other people have told me. Based on those two things, I can say that even though a lot of us are pretty scared of change, we can usually look back after the transformation is over and realize that it was actually good for us in the end. It doesn’t necessarily feel that way at the time—and I know that when I’m in the middle of a grueling workout with the O2 Trainer I’m not necessarily feeling what you would call blissful—but whenever it’s over, I’m really grateful for pushing myself to new heights. I think this is why so many people are getting more and more into fitness, and I honestly believe that the growth you experience in the gym can spill over into other facets of your life.

The good thing about the O2 Trainer is that it helps out with all those things – it just gets you there quicker.
